What is 123LogAnalyzer and what can I do with it?
123LogAnalyzer is a powerful online Windows tool that
turns your web logs into a comprehensive and easy to read
analysis of your customers and prospects. 123LogAnalyzer
tells you how visitors browse your web site, which pages
they view and which they ignore, how long they spend on
your site, and where they come from.
123LogAnalyzer's web server activity report displays the
number of visitors, the number of unique IP addresses,
the amount of bandwidth used, and the number of hits the
site received, broken down by time increment, day of the
week, and hour of the day. To learn more about the information
that visitors accessed, you can see which web pages were
viewed, files were downloaded, directories were accessed,
and images were looked at.
Referrer information includes the domains and URL's that
the visitors came from. The search engine performance
report displays the search engines which referred visitors
to the site, and the words and phrases that visitors searched
for. 123LogAnalyzer provides geographic information about
your visitors, as well as what platforms and browsers
people are using to visit your site. You can even identify
missing files, broken links, and other errors that visitors
encountered.
With its advanced filter options, 123LogAnalyzer lets
you examine only those visitors who went to specific pages,
or who downloaded particular files. You can also zero
in on visitors who came from particular URL's, specific

How easy is it to download and install?
Installing 123LogAnalyzer is very easy. First, visit
our download page, click on a
download link of 123LogAnalyzer, and the download should
start automatically. Then, choose 'Run from current location"
to let the installation wizard automatically start when
the download completes. Finally, when the installation
program launches, simply follow the on-screen instructions
from there to install 123LogAnalyzer your computer.
What are log files? Where can I find
them? How do I use them? >
Log files are files that contain a record of website
activity. Every time a person visits your website, a log
file is updated with the visitor's information by the
web server. These log files can be downloaded and used
to generate useful statistics.
123LogAnalyzer can analyze these log files and tell you
how visitors browse your web site, which pages they view
and which they ignore, how long they spend on your site,
and where they come from.
These log files are usually available from your Internet
Service Provider (ISP). If your web site is hosted by
an ISP, you should contact them for details of how to
access your web log files.
If you host your web site by yourself. you can check your
web server documentation for where log files are located.

What are your definitions of hits,
visitors, unique IPs, page views?
An access of a web page or a file will generate a "Hit"
on the web server. For example, if a web page contains
10 pictures, a visit on that page will generate 11 "hits"
on the web server, one hit for the web page, 10 hits for
the pictures.
If a visitor viewed 5 web pages on the web site, each
page contain 10 pictures, the web server will record:
- 55 Hits
- 5 Page Views
- 1 visit
If the visitor left the web site and came back 30 minutes
later, 123LogAnalyzer will report 2 visits. If the visitor
came back within 30 minutes, 123LogAnalyzer will still report
1 visit.
A unique user (with unique IP address) is determined by
the IP address. By default, a visit session is terminated
when a user falls inactive for more than 30 minutes. So
a unique user (with unique IP address) may visit your web
site twice and get reported as two visits.
Can I check if certain IP's are abusing
our site?
Yes. 123LogAnalyzer provides report of detailed IP addresses
of those who accessed your web site with the most hits
or with most bandwidth. So you can find out who's abusing
your web site. You can even use the filter feature to
narrow down the candidates. Not only can you see their
IP addresses in the report, but you can also see who own
those IP addresses, allowing you to contact the network
administrators and report network abuses.
Can I find out who has been visiting
my web site?
Yes. 123LogAnalyzer provides report of detailed IP addresses
of those who accessed your web site, broken down by visit
time, hits and bandwidth. You can also find out who owns
specific IP address.

How do I find and configure IIS log
files?
To find and configure your web log file, please following
the instructions:
- 1) Open Control Panel
- 2) Open Administrative Tools
- 3) Open Internet Services Manager
- 4) Select your Web site, and click right mouse button
and select "Properties"
- 5) On the Web Site section, select the Enable Logging
check box.
- 6) Choose W3C Extended Log File Format as the IIS
log format.
- 7) Click the Properties button.
(The "log file directory" shows where your web server
log files are stored)
- 8) Click Extended Properties. Make sure the following
properties are selected: Date, Time, Client IP Address,
Method, URI Stem, HTTP Status, Bytes Received, Bytes
Sent, User Agent, Referrer.
- 9) Click Apply and OK.

the Lotus Domino log files?
To add referrer information in Lotus Domino Web server
log files, please do the following:
- 1) Open nlnotes.exe
- 2) Select file - preferences - location preferences
- 3) Click on the Internet Protocol tab
- 4) Click on the HTTP tab
- 5) Enable Log files
- 6) Select "Extended Common" log format to use
Can I convert reports to an Excel
spreadsheet or to a MS Word Format?
Yes, Microsoft Word 97 or higher version and Excel 97
or higher version can read HTML format files directly.
So you can use MS Word or Excel open 123LogAnalyzer's
report files. Generally, the report files are stored under
"C:\Program Files\123LogAnalyzer\Report\" folder,
the file names are p0.htm to p8.htm
Why can't I get search engine analysis
or referrer analysis?
The reason for this problem is that the log file does
not contain enough information for 123LogAnalyzer.
If the web server is Unix/apache server, the log file
may be in "common" format which does not contain referrer
and browser information. To add this information, a "combined"
log file format should be used.
A "common" log file format is like this:

If the web server is Microsoft/IIS web server, in log
file properties section, referrer and User Agent properties
should be checked in order to provide referrer and browser
information. A IIS log file with referrer information
should be like this:

How can I set up a filter to look
for any accesses to a particular directory tree?
You can do this by using filters. For example, you want
reports for a particular directory "/promotions/", Try
the following steps:
- 1) Run 123LogAnalyzer, load your log file, click "Analyze"
button
- 2) Click "setting" to add a filter.
- 3) Click "Add" to add a filter
- 4) Select "Visitors who accessed specific pages or
files", click "next"
- 5) Enter "/promotions/", check "Hide hits of other
pages or files in the report"
- 6) Click "Finish", then "OK", then "Analyze" to do
the analysis.
You will get a report of those hits on your "/promotions/"
directory.
Can 123LogAnalyzer EXCLUDE certain
IP addresses (for example:all my staff in my office's
ip addresses)?
Yes. You can do this by using IP filters:
Use "Add a filter" feature, then select "exclude" and
"visitors who made purchases on your web site", then enter
the IP addresses of your staff's machines you want to
exclude.
How can I automatically run a report
from the command line?
You can run 123LogAnalyzer from the command
line.
The format is:
123log -logfile <logfile name>
[-domain <domain name>]
[-filter <filter filename>]
[-output <output directory>]
[-startdate <mmddyyyy>]
[-enddate <mmddyyyy>]

Can 123LogAnalyzer do reverse domain lookups to convert
IP quads into domains?
Yes. In "Output Options" window, check "Enable
Reverse DNS Lookup" option, you will get reports with
reverse domain lookups.
Can 123LogAnalyzer do URL parameter
analysis?
Yes. In "Output Options" window, un-check "Do
not display text after the question mark (?) in URL" option,
you will be able to do URL parameter analysis.
How can I customize 123LogAnalyzer
reports?
123LogAnalyzer use template HTML files to generate
the reports. These template HTML files are stored in "C:\Program
Files\123LogAnalyzer" folder, the file names are "temp0.htm"
to temp8.htm".
You can use your text editor or HTML editor to modify
these template files to make your own customized reports.
